While more readily associated with experimental electronica, ambient and off-kilter industrial sounds, Alessio Natalizia AKA Not Waving does offer up dancefloor-focused records every now and then – as those who bought his “Animals” and “Good Luck” albums on Diagonal will attest. He’s in club-focused form here, too, though neither track could be described as bog standard dancefloor fare. “Tremendous” takes synth sounds and acid style motifs reminiscent of the early 1990s and wraps them around a throbbing, muscular and mind-altering rhythm track influenced by EBM. “SIM” is rhythmically more angular and broken, but the synth sounds employed come straight from the late ’90s trance playbook. That the resulting track sounds nothing like trance is testament to Natalizia’s skills. – Juno
