Description
2018 reissue, 12″ LP, Because Music. Tenth anniversary press.
Warning – this could get triggering for anyone in their (ahem) upper-30s who still considers themselves young, hip and healthy. Metronomy’s landmark 2011 Mercury Prize Nominated album, The English Riviera, is now a decade old. Just take that in for a second, and try not to think about how many cigarettes, bottles of moonshine and sleepless nights have happened between then and now. Without wanting to say much more about age, anyone who remembers this dropping will likely also recall arguably the most beautiful CD cover design of the last decade – effectively framing a simple picture of palm tree, beach and ocean in a laser cut cardboard wrap. Simply put, getting hold of a copy was a genuine delight that far exceeded expectations. The music wasn’t bad, either, with record number three catapulting Joe Mount and Co from niche electronic fidgeters to main arena, grand pop maestros. They never looked back. – Juno
