Description
2024, 12″ EP, Kalahari Oyster Cult.
Exciting times, as Pavel Milyakov aka. Buttechno makes his debut splash on aquatic acid-pysch-house freeholders Kalahari Oyster Cult, for a playful foray into what he calls ‘Solstice Peaks’. Contrasting to his more recent album-length blissouts, these four sonic sidecars are like bubbles to their jet-streams, conveying a mood of whimsy and humour, by way of functional FMs and offhand clap samples, in an otherwise sprawling and comparatively earnest discography. An exercise in minimality – and how far it can go to convey a sense of maritime mayhem – a core feature ‘Solstice Peaks’ – of the likes of ‘Tech Metal’ and ‘Bleeps’ – is the FM knock, a cornerstone that eezily aids Buttechno’s command over rhythm and submersion.
